The friendship between Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson

The friendship between Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson began in 1985. Just as Elizabeth was obtaining the foundation to tackle HIV/AIDS discrimination in America...she met Michael Jackson. Their common bond has been working since they were very young children, thus, being robbed of a childhood but now they, no doubt, love each other very much. It is a very special, private relationship... not to be discussed or picked apart by those who know no better. In my eyes, Michael is a special man, vindicated from horrendous accusations and....as a fan, I intuitively believe that he will make the biggest comebacks in the history of show business. It is in the stars. Dame Elizabeth's attachment to complex, multi-dimensional people goes back to 1949 when her friendship with Montgomery Clift began. Monty was a tormented soul. She always knew the strength that was needed to maintain balance in this entertainment industry and has always possessed it herself. Her need for HIV/AIDS fundraising does not stem from wanting to feel important or prove anything to the world. It comes from her heart and soul. It comes from experiencing such loss that has encompassed her for two decades now. In the most egotistical, self-serving business that exists today, she gives of herself freely choosing to ignore all of that other superfluous stuff.

American writer Paul Theroux about Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and the biblical Judas

    Paul Theroux
    Published: 11:22PM BST 27 Jun 2009

…. I boarded a helicopter with Elizabeth Taylor – I was at Neverland
interviewing her – and flew over the valley. Neverland Valley revolved
slowly beneath us, the shadows lengthening from the pinky-gold glow
    slipping from the sky.
"What's that railway station for?" I asked.
    "The sick children."
    "And all those rides?"
    "The sick children."
"Look at all those tents…" Hidden in the woods, it was my first glimpse at the collection of tall teepees.
"The Indian village. The sick children love that place."
Their friendship started when, out of the blue, Michael offered her
tickets for one of his Thriller Tour concerts – indeed, she asked for
    14 tickets
. But the seats were in a glass-enclosed VIP box, so far from
the stage "you might as well have been watching it on TV". Instead of
staying, she led her large party home.
Hearing that she'd left the concert early, Michael called the next day
in tears apologising for the bad seats. He stayed on the line, they
talked for two hours. And then they talked every day. Weeks passed, the
calls continued. Months went by. "Really, we got to know each other on
    the telephone, over three months."

One day Michael suggested that he might drop by. Elizabeth said fine.
He said: "May I bring my chimpanzee?" Elizabeth said, "Sure. I love
animals." Michael showed up holding hands with the chimp, Bubbles...

Thriller did not have an official tour to promote it, although
the 1984 Victory Tour, headlined by The Jacksons, showcased much of
Jackson's new solo material to more than two million Americans. He
donated his $5 million share from the Victory Tour to charity. Michael
Jackson was on top of the world. Jackson co-wrote the charity single
"We Are the World" with Lionel Richie,
which was released worldwide to aid the poor in Africa and the US. He
was one of 39 music celebrities who performed on the record and the
single became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with nearly
20 million copies sold and millions of dollars donated to famine
relief. Jackson won eight awards during the 1984 Grammys.

Maybe they thought of Victory Tour, because the Thriller tour never happened.

In any case they have a wonderful friendship.

Liberian Girl is dedicated to close friend and actress Elizabeth Taylor.
The song starts with Swahili language phrase: "Nakupenda pia, nakutaka pia, mpenzi we!" (I love you, and I want you, my dear!)

    Notes from the book ''Moonwalk''

''I love Elizabeth Taylor. I'm inspired by her bravery. She has been through so much and she is a survivor.
That lady has been through a lot and she's walked out of it on two feet. I identify with her very strongly
because of our experiences as child stars. When we first started talking on the phone, she told me she felt
as if she had known me for years. I felt the same way.''

This is interesting I did not know about this.

Taylor is a supporter of Kabbalah and member of the Kabbalah Centre.
She encouraged long-time friend Michael Jackson to wear ared string as protection from the evil-eye during his 2005 trial for molestation, where he was eventually cleared of all charges.

    CNN LARRY KING LIVE

    Interview With Elizabeth Taylor

    Aired May 30, 2006 - 21:00 ET

KING: Michael Jackson. The story of your friendship with him, how did that begin?

TAYLOR: I went to a concert, and I couldn't see a thing. I was way up
in the -- well, it was a stadium. And I couldn't see a thing. And I
brought 30 people, and we couldn't even hear. So we went home to watch
it on television by disc. And Michael heard that I had left halfway
through, and called me the next day, and was like in tears because he
had heard that I'd walked out. I hadn't walked out. I just couldn't see
    anything.

And then we talked on the phone for about three
hours, and from there on in, we talked more and more on the phone. Then
we met, and spent more and more time with each other, and just became
really good friends. Told each other everything.

KING: Why did you like him so much?

    TAYLOR: We're very much alike.

    KING: Are you?

TAYLOR: Yes. We both had horrible childhoods. Well, working at the age
of 9 is not a childhood. He started at 3, and that certainly isn't a
    childhood.

KING: Have you spoken to him recently?

TAYLOR: Yes, I have. KING: How's he doing? He's in where?

    TAYLOR: He sounds very happy.

    KING: Where is he?

TAYLOR: At the moment, I think he was in London.

KING: But he was in Tokyo recently, and then London.

    TAYLOR: Yes.

KING: But he lives in Bahrain?

    TAYLOR: Right.

KING: What did you think of the charges against him?

TAYLOR: I've never been so angry in my life.

KING: But didn't you think, Elizabeth, Dame Elizabeth, I'm sorry, that
it would look strange to people to have someone who is in his 40s
spending a night with children? I mean, just on the face of it.

TAYLOR: All right. I'll answer that, because I've been there, when his
nephews were there, and we all were in the bed, watching television.
There was nothing abnormal about it. There was no touchy-feely going
on. We laughed like children, and we watched a lot of Walt Disney.
There was nothing odd about it.

KING: So you think they were out after him?

    TAYLOR: I do.

KING: The authorities and the like?

TAYLOR: I think the paparazzi started -- not the paparazzi, the press. Excuse me. May I blow my nose?

    KING: You may.

    TAYLOR: Thank you.

    KING: It's called human.

    (CROSSTALK).

KING: Even Elizabeth Taylor blows her nose.

Is he going to come back to working?

TAYLOR: I don't think so. Except maybe in Europe.

KING: You don't think he'll ever live in the United States again?

TAYLOR: Well, really, why should he? He's been treated like dirt here.
