E3 2010: Ubisoft reveals Michael Jackson dance game – and more

The event ended with its key revelation – a new Michael Jackson dancing and singing game, using music and dance moves from the late King of Pop's vast career, and supporting Kinect and PlayStation Move. The details were vague, but it looks like you'll be taught whole group routines, from hits like Beat It and Billie Jean, allowing you to get together with friends and pretend to be in Jackson's classic videos.

The cheering and applause echoed out through the vast auditorium of the Los Angeles Theatre. Jackson has still got it and Ubisoft, swaying between blockbuster releases and odd experiments (some promise to be successful, some perhaps less so) is still the unpredictable sometimes mystifying European art house provocateur of mainstream games publishing.

French firm Ubisoft have made a number of big announcements during their press conference in LA.

Arguably the most intriguing was an as yet unnamed game based around the career of Michael Jackson.

Featuring the King of Pop’s most famous songs, the game appears to combine Singstar karaoke- style singing elements along with dance gameplay that will make use of PlayStation Move on PS3 and Kinect on Xbox 360.

A Ubisoft spokesperson said: "The game is family entertainment at its best and will provide an interactive experience that enables players to step into the shoes of Michael Jackson himself and re-live his most iconic performances through their own singing and dancing."

"Michael always pushed every limit when it came to technology to give his fans unforgettable entertainment experiences, whether it involved his videos, his recordings or his concerts," said John Branca, co-executor of Jackson's estate.

"Now, with this interactive product, we have the chance to bring Michael, the artist, into households around the world in a perfect match of Michael's artistry and the family entertainment which he always highly valued."

What kind of introduction is a little strange... isn't it?

''Yes, it appears that sufficient time has elapsed since the untimely murder/death/disappearance of The King of Pop, Michael Jackson for it to be tasteful for Ubisoft to announce a game.''
